If you're a tinkerer, builder or all around fix-it genius, it's good to have some precision ground shafting on your spare parts shelf. Great for repairing things around the house, building clever mechanisms, go karts for the kids, etc. This is of course the same high quality 1144 stressproof steel listed below, precision ground and keyed along the entire length. Slips perfectly though standard ball bearings. Tough enough for torquey loads but can be cut with a hacksaw.

Each pack contains one length of 1/2", 5/8", 3/4" and 7/8" diameter keyed shaft and the proper square key stock (8 pieces in the short assortment, 16 in the long) for attaching pulleys, sheaves, sprockets or gears.

As top builders learned many years ago, "set screws suck" for coupling sprockets, pulleys and wheels to shafting. That's why the pros all use keyways. Until now you had to either make your own keyed shafts with a Dremel and a basketfull of patience or buy cheesy mild-steel stuff from some other middleman. Since 2001 we've been trucking this in 800 lb. at a time so we have it when you need it!

Our pre-keyed shafting is 1144 Stressproof alloy** and is keyed the entire length. It is still able to be cut and worked with hand tools but heat treatable to the high Rc 30s. It is precision ground which means it fits snugly through ball bearings, our industry exclusive pillow blocks and trophy-winning Colson wheel solutions.

A lot of builders have been asking us for a source of good, lightweight, inexpensive shaft collars so here you go! I found a robot-sympathetic distributor that resulted in some great prices. These are the friction/clamp type that won't mar your drive shafts. Be sure to specify if you need these broached for a keyway (50 cents extra).
